Revisiting local businesses

I have been a proponent of doing business locally for years now, even before there was a short-lived Hudson Valley loyalty card.  A few months ago I became a fan of The 3/50 Project's Facebook page, because the group's heart is in the right place.  They push for people to pick three businesses in town they would miss if closed, and commit to spreading 50 bucks a month among those three.  From what I've read on their web site, the media often get confused and think it's 50 in each business, but they're very clear it's just fifty dollars and three businesses.

The idea came back when I found RecycleBill's green certification program.  The program is completely free and verifiable, and a welcome relief in the midst of the greenwashing out there.  My writing business is mostly virtual and uses very few resources (I think), but support the 3/50 Project is a step that I can take without much difficulty.  I went so far as to put the logo on my website and list their page as a favorite on my own Facebook page.

I don't know if I will be able to complete the Green Enough for RecycleBill program, but I will continue to encourage people to spend some of their money in their own downtowns. Stumble Upon Toolbar
